How I Work

A Trauma-Informed, Integrative Approach

A space shaped around you

I offer therapy in a way that is collaborative, compassionate, and paced to your individual needs. No two people are the same, and therapy is not something that can be applied with a one-size-fits-all approach. Some people come with a clear sense of what they want to work on. Others arrive feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure where to begin. Wherever you are, we start there.

Working with both present difficulties and past experiences

People often seek therapy because of current struggles — anxiety, low mood, panic, intrusive thoughts, or patterns that feel stuck. Sometimes these difficulties are linked to earlier experiences that have not yet been fully processed.

My approach allows us to work with both:

  • what is showing up in your life now

  • and the underlying experiences that may be shaping those patterns

Always with care, clarity, and respect for your capacity.

Trauma-informed and nervous-system aware

I work from a trauma-informed perspective, meaning that safety, choice, and pacing are central. Rather than pushing for change, we focus on creating the conditions in which change can naturally occur.

This includes paying attention to:

  • your nervous system responses

  • how stress or overwhelm shows up in your body

  • the importance of grounding, regulation, and rest

For many people, this helps therapy feel safer and more sustainable.

Integrating different approaches thoughtfully

I am trained in and accredited to deliver evidence-based therapies, including EMDR and CBT. These may be offered as stand-alone treatments where appropriate.

Alongside this, I may draw on:

  • parts-informed approaches (supporting the different parts of you that hold pain or try to protect you)

  • Compassion-Focused Therapy

  • somatic awareness

  • iRest Yoga Nidra for regulation and integration

These approaches are not blended randomly. Any integration is intentional, transparent, and guided by what will best support you at that stage of therapy.

Working at your pace

Some people want a more structured, goal-focused approach. Others need time to build trust, stability, and inner resources before engaging in deeper work.

We regularly check in about:

  • what feels helpful

  • what feels too much

  • what you want from therapy

You remain an active participant in the process, with space to reflect and adjust as we go.

What therapy with me is like

Clients often describe our work together as:

  • calm and containing

  • collaborative rather than directive

  • both practical and reflective

  • supportive of deeper understanding as well as change

My role is not to “fix” you, but to walk alongside you as you reconnect with your own capacity for healing and growth.

What to expect from therapy

Our work usually begins with one or two sessions focused on understanding what brings you to therapy and what you hope for from it. We’ll also explore what feels safe and supportive for you at this stage.

Therapy is not a fixed process. Some sessions may feel reflective and containing, while others may be more focused or structured. We regularly check in about how the work is feeling and make adjustments as needed.

You are not expected to know exactly what you need or where to begin. Therapy is a collaborative process, and we find the way forward together.

Taking the next step

Sessions are typically 60 or 90 minutes and can take place face-to-face in Lancashire or online via secure video.

We move at a pace that feels safe and manageable for you — there is no rush and no expectation to “get it right.” Therapy creates space for curiosity, connection, and healing, one small step at a time.

You’re welcome to get in touch to ask questions or arrange an free intro call -an initial conversation, where we can think together about what might be most supportive for you.
